Winter is now in full force. No matter where you live, it is definitely the colder months. Which also means it is cold and flu season. But, just because cold weather is here doesn’t mean you have to get sick or forget your health tips. It is actually more important during these months to follow through with being healthy and focusing on your immune system. I’ve listed some of the best, most important tips for you here!
Exercise
Keep up with exercise
Don’t give up on exercising just because it’s cold outside. Get a gym membership, find at-home workouts, or layer up and continue to workout outside. The winter is full of holidays with parties and feasts. Don’t let all your healthy habits go to waste during these cold months!
Wear layers
When you wear layers, you are insulated. It is also easy to remove to avoid overheating, too.
Cover you head
About half the body heat you lose is through your head, so make sure to add a hat.
Wear gloves
Protect your extremities from frostbite or losing circulation by making sure they are warm.
Avoid heavy cotton
Don’t wear heavy cotton when you work out in the cold: it soaks up sweat which makes you wetter and colder.
Boost Immunity
Sleep
Make sure you are getting the recommended amount of sleep. It is when your body recharges and refuels.
Hydrate
Make sure you are drinking a lot of water!!! You should be doing this anyway! Tea is also a healthy winter drink that helps your immune system.
Eat fruits and veggies
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat fruits and veggies. There is still plenty of in-season produce during the winter.
Take supplements
Make sure to boost your vitamin intake. Focus on Vitamin C, protein, and zinc!
Get your shots
For your own health, as well as those around you, make sure you get your flu and whooping cough immunization shots!
Prevention
Moisturize
Protect your skin by making sure it’s moisturized with lotion.
Wash your hands!
Always, always, always wash your hands when you sneeze, when you cough, after you eat, after using the bathroom, after cleaning.
Keep clean
Make sure you keep surfaces clean, your children’s toys clean, and your house. It’ll help prevent the spread of germs.
Winterize your home
Check your insulation and filter. Make sure your heater works and your chimney is clean.
